One day, after yet another frustrating attempt, I thought: there has to be a better way. I sketched out an idea for a tool that would make tandem alignment fast, precise, and foolproof.
How it works
EZ Slide – is a smart gadget for precise tandem alignment on trailers. It uses a signal module and two magnetic markers to help you hit the right pin-and-hole position on the first try.
Set up signal module
Place the module in the cab or anywhere you can easily see and hear it.
It turns on automatically and alerts you when the markers line up.
Set markers
Attach one marker to the target hole where the tandem pin should go.
Place the second marker on the metal directly across from the pin.
Make sure the green light is on.
Slide the tandem to align
Slide the tandem toward the target hole. Watch the signal module in the cab – it will alert when the pin marker is roughly lined up with the hole marker.
Remove the EZ Slide parts
Take off the HOLE and PIN markers from the trailer.
Release the pins.
Push the tandem lock pins to free them. Slide the trailer to seat the pins.
Make sure each pin is fully engaged before driving.
